What To Wear To An Engagement Party A Guide For The Bride

Wedding celebrations kick off with the engagement party and so does the pressure of what to wear, but panic not! Help is at hand with Grazia's easy-peasy outfit guide, whether you're having informal drinks in a bar, celebrating at home or toasting the coming nuptials with a fancy black tie affair, read on for a guaranteed stress-free and super stylish engagement bash...

For an engagement party in a bar:

Take advantage of the informal setting and think date-night-dressy. As the bride looking sexy but not OTT is key, this super sassy Carven dress (above) hugs in all the right places, but its high neckline keeps you out of tarty territory. However it is your night so only sky-scrapper heels will do! As a guest understated glamour is the way to go and this chic DKNY jumpsuit (above) is a fab, modern alternative to a dress.

For engagement drinks at your/his parent’s house:

For an engagement party/drinks held at your parent’s/in-law’s home avoid looking overtly sexy, instead channel old school glamour if you’re the bride: this elegant Lucas Nascimento strapless dress (above) is perfect. Team with regal jewellery and head-turning shoes. Similar rules apply for guests; go for a simply cut dress in a longer hem length like this fab Tibi number (above), and add interest to your look with standout shoes and classic but sparkly jewellery.

Astley Clark gold and pave diamond earrings £595 at Liberty
Charlotte Olympia 'Serena' shoes £595 at Matches
Coast 'Parker' clutch £50

For a black tie engagement party at a hotel:

Black tie occasions call for full-length frocks, but be sure to avoid wedding dress look-a-likes by sticking to black or a dark colour palette. As the bride you can afford to be daring and this sequin covered number by Whistles (above) strikes the right cord. Great for guests this ‘Boulder’ dress in slatey blue by Suzannah (above) is a softer alternate to black, and is easy to accessorise with a colorful bag and shoes.

Yes, that's really what I meant

I didn't want to hurt your feelings but I do think a food truck is tacky for an engagement party. I think you have the right idea and I do agree with you that there are some real gourmet food trucks out there that are really a hot craze.
The thing is you mentioned you are going to have 70 people. That's A LOT of people and I personally don't think a food truck is the proper venue for that many people.
I like the idea of having it catered and I whole heartily agree with you it's an awful pain to do it yourself. A small caterer with hor de vers' (sp) I think would be very nice and it shouldn't cost you too much money if you maybe supply some nice paper goods and such

If it is a fancy venue, then it may be appropriate to have a black-tie event, but if it is a casual venue, it is not necessary to wear something so fancy as a ball-gown or a tuxedo.
